Terms of Service

Who runs Portrait Together, how the free preview and the one-time purchase work, what you get, redos and refunds, the AI models we use, the photos you may upload, and how you may use your portrait.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

These terms apply to everyone who uses portraittogether.com. By uploading a photo, asking for a free preview, buying a portrait, setting up a gift or signing in, you agree to them.

Who we are

Portrait Together (portraittogether.com) is an independently operated online service that makes custom digital portraits of you and your pet from photos you upload. "We", "us" and "Portrait Together" mean the operator of portraittogether.com.

Portrait Together is an independent service. Portraits are created from your photos and are not affiliated with or endorsed by any artist or studio.

Two mailboxes are monitored, and a person reads both of them:

  • support@portraittogether.com — support, billing, refunds, privacy questions, data requests, and reports of content that breaks our rules.
  • legal@portraittogether.com — legal notices, security reports, and copyright and trademark complaints.

What Portrait Together is

You upload separate photos of the people and pets you want in the portrait (up to 2 people and 2 pets), choose 3 looks, and see 3 free watermarked previews. If you want to keep a portrait, you buy it with a one-time payment and download it straight away.

Portraits are created with AI image technology from the photos you upload. No human artist paints or draws them. Each portrait is newly generated for your order; it is not copied from another order or taken from a stock library. Every file you download carries embedded IPTC metadata that identifies it as AI-generated. How your portrait is made explains every step.

Portrait Together is a digital service delivered over the internet. Nothing is printed, framed or shipped.

AI output can be imperfect. A portrait may not look exactly like you or your pet, which is why you see the previews before you pay, why each portrait you buy includes redos, and why the refund policy covers portraits that are clearly wrong. We may change, add or discontinue features, with reasonable notice where that is possible. A change never takes away something you already paid for.

AI models we use

These are the models and providers we use today:

  • Portraits: GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst by OpenAI, run on fal.ai. If it is busy or fails for a portrait, we switch automatically to GPT Image 2 by OpenAI, and as a last resort to Nano Banana 2.1 by Google, both run on fal.ai.
  • Print files: enlarged with SeedVR by ByteDance Seed, run on fal.ai.
  • Photo checks: GPT-6 Luna by OpenAI, accessed through OpenRouter, checks that each upload shows one clear subject, is sharp enough and appears to show an adult.
  • Safety checks: the fal.ai image safety check screens every uploaded photo and every finished portrait; Waffo Prompt Sift and our own blocked-terms list screen the notes you write, such as redo notes.

We may change providers; this list is kept current. When we switch to another model or provider, we update this list and How your portrait is made before the change goes live. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any of the model providers; their names and trademarks belong to them.

The model providers receive the photos and instructions a step needs, and process them only to perform that step. That processing may take place outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and the United States. Payments are handled by our merchant of record, Waffo Pancake; files are stored on Cloudflare R2; and email is sent through Resend. See the privacy policy for what each of them receives.

Who may use Portrait Together

  • 18 and over. You must be at least 18 years old to use Portrait Together.
  • Adults and pets only. Portraits may only include adults and animals. Photos of anyone under 18 are not accepted. Before you upload, you confirm that no one pictured is under 18, and photos that appear to show a child are blocked by an automatic check.

Your photos and your promises

When you upload a photo, you promise that:

  • you took the photo or have the right to use it;
  • every person in it agreed to you uploading it and to having a portrait made with them in it;
  • no one in it is under 18;
  • it is not a photo of a celebrity, public figure or politician uploaded to make a portrait that presents them as someone they are not, and it is not meant to deceive anyone.

You keep all rights in your photos. You give us a limited licence to store, check and process them, and to send them to the model providers listed above, only to make, deliver, review and support your order. That licence ends when the photos are deleted. Original uploads are deleted automatically 30 days after your order is completed, or 30 days after you upload them if you don't buy.

We do not create face templates or any other biometric identifiers from your photos, and we do not compare faces against any database.

The free preview

  • 3 watermarked previews per order, one for each look you choose, shown at reduced size. The full-quality original is stored privately and is never sent to your device until you pay.
  • One free order per email address every 30 days. We normalise addresses before checking (for example, we ignore +tags), and we also limit free previews per device and per network to stop abuse.
  • Free retry while previewing: 1 per order — replace the whole set, or swap a single look.
  • Daily capacity. Free previews have a daily capacity. When it is reached, your preview waits in a queue and we email you when it is ready.
  • The free preview costs nothing and creates no obligation to buy.

Price and what you get

Prices are in US dollars and are shown on our home page and again before checkout:

  • One portrait: $19.
  • All 3 portraits from your previews: $33.
  • Another look, after you have bought: $7 each.

Each is a one-time payment. There is no subscription, nothing renews, and there are no credits. Any applicable taxes are added at checkout.

For each portrait you buy, you get:

  • the full-resolution original, without the watermark, available to download as soon as payment is confirmed — the same image you saw in the preview, not a new one;
  • a print-ready file, 8×10 inches at 300 DPI, usually ready within a few minutes — print it at home or at any photo lab;
  • a private gift page you can share now, schedule, or keep as a private link;
  • 2 free redos, described below.

How payment is taken

Payments are processed by our merchant of record, Waffo Pancake, as shown at checkout. The merchant of record acts as the reseller of the service to you and handles tax and invoicing, and its buyer terms also apply to your purchase. Your card details go to it and are never stored on our servers; we receive the order result and the payment record it returns. Refunds go back to the original payment method.

Redos

Each portrait you buy includes 2 free redos. A redo makes the same look again from the same photos, and you can add a short note of up to 200 characters (for example, "she has a white patch on her chest"). Every version is kept, and you choose which one is final. A redo that fails does not count.

Refunds

The short version; the full policy is on the refund policy page and controls if the two ever differ.

  • See it before you pay. You see the previews first and pay nothing if you don't buy.
  • Clearly wrong, money back. If, after your redos, a portrait you bought is still clearly wrong, ask within 14 days of payment and we refund it in full. That covers a portrait that doesn't look like you or your pet; a person or pet who is missing; broken faces, limbs or paws; a damaged file or framing that cuts off a person or pet; and a double charge, which you can report at any time without using redos first.
  • Change of mind and not liking the look of a portrait you saw before buying are not refunded.
  • Statutory rights. If consumer law where you live gives you more rights, nothing here limits them.

A person reviews every refund request and replies within 24 hours. To ask, use Need help? on your order page, or email support@portraittogether.com from the address you ordered with.

Gift pages and delivery to the recipient

Every portrait you buy can have a private gift page. You can add a note of up to 500 characters, then choose how the person gets it:

  • Share it now — copy the link or send it by text, email or any app.
  • Schedule it — we email the gift to up to 3 addresses at the date, time and time zone you choose. You can change, cancel or send it right away at any time before it is sent.
  • Keep a private link — keep the link and choose your own moment.

You are responsible for the recipients' email addresses being correct and for being allowed to share them with us for this gift. We use a recipient's email address only to deliver that gift; we never add it to any marketing list. Gift links are long and random and are not listed in search engines. A gift page stops working if the order is refunded. To have a gift page taken down, email support@portraittogether.com.

Storage

  • Original uploads are deleted automatically 30 days after your order is completed, or 30 days after upload if you don't buy.
  • Previews you don't buy are deleted 30 days after they are made.
  • Portraits you buy stay on your private order page and in My portraits for as long as we operate the service, unless the order is refunded or you ask us to delete them.
  • Download links are short-lived (up to 24 hours) and are renewed each time you open your order page.

Your account

There is no sign-up form and no password. When you give us your email address for your free preview, we create an account for that address so we can keep your portraits together. You sign in to My portraits with a one-time sign-in link we email you. Each order also has its own private link, which works on any device. Keep your email account and your private links to yourself: anyone who has them can open your order.

Acceptable use

Our Acceptable Use Policy forms part of these terms. In short, you may not upload, create or attempt to create:

  1. sexual content, nudity or sexually suggestive content;
  2. anything involving a person under 18;
  3. copyrighted characters, trademarks or logos;
  4. violence, hate, harassment or self-harm;
  5. deepfakes or impersonation — portraits of celebrities, public figures or politicians, or any portrait made to deceive;
  6. photos of people who did not agree to be uploaded, or anything else illegal.

Photos and finished portraits pass automated safety checks, and the notes you write pass our blocked-terms list and Waffo Prompt Sift. We may block a request, remove content, cancel an order without refund, and close accounts that break these rules. Content that sexualises a minor is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other authorities as the law requires. You also agree not to break the law, infringe anyone's rights, attempt unauthorized access to our systems, or interfere with the service.

To report a concern, see Report a concern.

How you may use your portrait

  • Personal use. You may download, print, share and give your portrait, and use it for personal, non-commercial purposes, for as long as you like. You may not sell it, print it on products for sale, or use it in advertising or other commercial work without our written permission.
  • Say that it is AI-generated when you present the portrait on its own in a public place, and do not present it as painted or drawn by a person.
  • No training other AI models. You must not use Portrait Together, or any portrait or output from it, to train, fine-tune or otherwise improve any AI model.
  • Lawful use. You must use Portrait Together and your portrait in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including trade compliance laws, and with our Acceptable Use Policy.
  • We do not show your portrait. Nothing you upload or create appears in a public gallery. We never use your photos or portraits in our marketing or advertising without your separate written permission.
  • No exclusivity. AI models can produce similar images for different people. We do not promise that your portrait is unique, and we cannot give you rights in material that someone else already owns.

Intellectual property

The site, the software behind it, the Portrait Together name and brand, and the content we publish are ours, and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any of that to you. Names of other brands mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners.

Ending things

We may close an order or block an email address that breaks these terms. You can stop using Portrait Together at any time, and you can ask us to delete your data as described in the privacy policy.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. AI-generated output may be imperfect, may not look exactly like the people and pets in your photos, and may be unsuitable for your purpose, and we do not warrant that it will be otherwise. This does not limit the refunds described in the refund policy.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages arising out of your use of, or inability to use, the service.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Informal Resolution

Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@portraittogether.com and try to resolve the dispute informally first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes are reflected in the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, announced through the service. A change never applies retroactively to a purchase you already made.
