Acceptable Use Policy

What you can and cannot upload or create with Portrait Together, how photos, portraits and text are moderated, how violations are enforced, and how to report a concern.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

Portrait Together makes portraits of adults and their pets from photos you upload, using AI image models. This Acceptable Use Policy forms part of the terms of service. It sets out what is not allowed, how our checks work, what happens when the rules are broken, and how to report a concern.

What you can make

Portraits of you, the adults in your life and your pets — together or on their own — in any of our looks, for yourself or as a gift, including portraits in memory of a pet you miss.

What is not allowed

This applies to every photo you upload, everything you write (pet names, redo notes, gift notes) and every portrait made from them. You may not upload, create or attempt to create:

  1. Sexual content — nudity, sexual or sexually suggestive content of any kind.
  2. Anything involving minors — photos of anyone under 18 are not accepted at all, and anything that sexualises or endangers a child is zero tolerance.
  3. Copyrighted characters, trademarks and logos — someone else's characters, brands or logos.
  4. Violence, hate, harassment and self-harm — graphic violence or gore, hate symbols or attacks on people for who they are, harassment, and content that promotes self-harm or suicide.
  5. Deepfakes and impersonation — portraits of celebrities, public figures or politicians, or any portrait made to deceive people about who is in it or what they did.
  6. Photos without consent, and anything illegal — photos of people who did not agree to be uploaded, and any other content or use that breaks the law.

Trying to get around our checks — for example by cropping, disguising or repeatedly re-uploading a refused photo, or rewording refused text — is also a violation.

How moderation works

We check what goes in and what comes out.

  1. Photo checks before anything is made. Every uploaded photo goes through the fal.ai image safety check and an automated photo check that confirms a clear subject and flags people who appear to be under 18. A photo that fails is refused with the reason, and is never used. If the safety check cannot be reached, the photo is not accepted and you can try again later.
  2. Text checks. The notes you write, such as redo notes, are checked against our own blocked-terms list, which covers sexual content, child sexual abuse material, copyrighted characters and trademarks, violence, hate, self-harm, deepfakes, celebrities and politicians. Text that passes the list then goes to an independent content-safety check, Waffo Prompt Sift. If that check cannot be reached at that moment, the text is allowed through on the blocked-terms list alone, and the decision is recorded so that it can be reviewed afterwards.
  3. Fixed instructions. The written instructions sent to the image model come from the look you choose; you cannot write your own prompt.
  4. Every portrait is checked again. Each finished image goes through the image safety check before you see it. An image that fails is never shown, and you are not charged for it.
  5. Human review. A person reads every report we receive and decides what happens to the content.
  6. Records. We keep a moderation log of every automated decision and every human review decision, so that refusals can be checked, appeals handled and our moderation audited by us and our payment partner.

The checks are automated and imperfect in both directions: they sometimes refuse things they should not, and things can slip through. That is what reporting and appeals are for.

Enforcement

  • Photo, text or portrait refused — it is not used or shown. You can change it and try again.
  • Content removed — we take down a portrait or gift page and tell you which rule it broke.
  • Order cancelled — an order that breaks this policy is cancelled without a refund.
  • Account closed — for repeated violations or a single serious one: your orders are closed and your email address is blocked.
  • Reported to authorities — content that sexualises a minor is reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other authorities as the law requires, and the account is banned permanently.

Report a concern

If you see a portrait or gift page that breaks this policy, received a gift you did not expect, or believe a photo of you was uploaded without your consent, email support@portraittogether.com with the subject "Report a concern". Include the link and what is wrong with it.

A person replies within two business days, removes anything that violates this policy, and keeps the reporter's identity confidential. Copyright and trademark complaints can also go to legal@portraittogether.com.

Appeals

If your photo, text or portrait was refused, or your content was removed, and you think we got it wrong, email support@portraittogether.com within 14 days with the order link or the message you saw. A person reviews it and replies within five business days. If we agree, we restore it.

Changes

We update this page when our checks change. The date at the top is the last revision.
