How a Pet and Owner Portrait Is Made from Two Photos

You probably have a camera roll full of your pet and very few photos of the two of you. A pet and owner portrait fixes that with two photos, taken any time, anywhere. Two close, clear photos work better than one group shot, so you look like you and your pet looks like your pet.
You can start with the photos already on your phone: a selfie from last spring, your dog asleep on the rug last night. Nobody has to dress up, line up or wait for good weather, and the two photos don't need to come from the same room or even the same year. The look you choose sets the scene for both of you.
One photo of you
Just you in the frame, face easy to see. A selfie works. Tips are below.
One photo of your pet
A clear photo of your dog or cat with their whole face showing. They don't have to look at the camera. Coat color, markings, ear shape and size are kept, so a 90-pound shepherd doesn't turn into a lapdog.
Pick three looks and see them free
In about a minute you'll see three watermarked previews. Keep the ones you love, or try a new set once, free.
What Photo of You Works Best

For your own photo:
- Face the camera, or close to it. Both eyes visible, head and shoulders in the frame.
- Use soft light. A window beats a flash. Avoid strong shadows across your face.
- No sunglasses, no heavy filters. Everyday glasses are fine.
- Pick the original. From your camera roll, not a screenshot or a photo saved from a chat.
- The background doesn't matter. The look you choose sets the scene.
Glasses, gray hair and laugh lines all stay. The portrait should look like the person your pet waits for at the door.
Dog and Owner Portraits: You and Your Dog in One Frame
Each look is a moment you might have missed with the camera. All six work for a dog and owner portrait or a cat and owner one.

Forehead to Forehead
A quiet, close moment, just the two of you. For when words feel like too much.

Golden Hour Walk
A slow evening stroll in warm, golden light, for anyone whose favorite hour is the last walk of the day.

Sunday Sofa
Curled up together on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Blanket, coffee, a dog who takes up more than their half.

Wildflower Picnic
A sunny picnic in a field of wildflowers, with room for a second dog on the blanket.

The Classic
A timeless oil-painting portrait, made to hang on the wall. The one for above the fireplace.

Front Porch
The whole family on the front steps of home. Made for two people and one or two pets.
Cat and Owner Portraits, Too

Cats leave the moment you lift the phone. A cat and owner portrait only needs a photo of each of you, so your cat never has to cooperate. Sunday Sofa and The Classic suit most cats.
Two People, Two Pets: Room for Everyone
A pet and owner portrait can hold up to two people and two pets: your partner, your mom or your grown kids, plus a second dog or cat. Some looks are made for one person and one pet, and those will say so. Choose "Your family + pet" when you start, and the looks that fit everyone will light up. For a bigger family portrait with a dog, start with the family option. Everyone pictured needs to be an adult, and nobody has to be in the same room, or even the same state.

Pet and Owner Portrait FAQ
Do we need a photo together?
No. One photo of you and one of your pet is all a pet and owner portrait needs.
Is my photo good enough?
If your face is clear and well lit, almost certainly. The upload check tells you right away if it won't work.
Does the background of my photo matter?
No. The look you pick sets the background, so a messy kitchen or a crowded park won't show up.
Can I use an old or low-quality photo?
An old photo is fine if the face is sharp. Very small or blurry photos may not work. Photos need at least 600 pixels on the short side.
Can you add or remove something from our photo?
Small things, sometimes. After you buy, add a note to a free redo, like "no leash." The redo follows your note as closely as it can, but we can't promise every change. Beyond the setting each look provides, we don't offer photo editing.
Can I see it before paying?
Yes. You see three watermarked previews free, and you can try a new set once. After you buy, each portrait gets 2 free redos. If it's still obviously wrong, you can get a full refund within 14 days.
What if one of us has passed away?
It works the same way: one clear photo of each of you, from any year. For a pet, the gentle looks on our pet memorial portrait page are made for that. For a person, use a photo you have the right to use.
Is this painted by a real artist?
No. It's made digitally from your photos using image technology, not by hand, and every portrait is new. Here's how it's made.
Can kids be in the portrait?
Not at this time. We can only use photos of adults and pets.
You've always been in the picture. Now you're in the portrait.
